Aadhar card has been used for electronic verification process by various telecom service providers. However, many of the big telecom players like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have started planning for replacement of Aadhaar-based verification process with alternate Digital KYC processes, that are being slowly getting rolled out. This new process may replace the Aadhaar eKYC for verifying new set of subscribers. This move has been a result of the detailed instructions issued by Telecon department for telecom companies to discontinue usage of Aadhaar-dependent eKYC processes.
Instead of immediately stopping the eKYC verification process, telecom companies have seeked time till November 20, 2018 to slowly start roll-out of the new Digital KYC process. Bharti Airtel has informed PTI about rolling out the digital KYC process in few regions of UP East and West, as well as Delhi. The new process will be entirely digital.
