Asia Pulp and Paper Group (APP) is setting one of the largest paper mill in one site in the world, having a capacity of about 5 million tonners pa (per annum) in Andhra Pradesh state of India. This makes it one of the single largest FDI in a single greenfield project in India, at $3.5 billion. For this project, APP has found a space as large as 2500 acres in the Prakasam district.
A project of this magnitude is likely to create as many as 15,000 jobs (direct as well as indirect). This scheduled unit is targeted to manufacture different types of paper – for specialty, packaging, writing and printing. This assignment will prove beneficial to over 50,000 pulpwood farmers. Given that one of the largest paper producers across the globe (APP) is involved in this project, time will tell how it pans out.
